The War Australia Couldn’t Win… Against Emus
In 1932, Australia went to war… with emus. After thousands of emus invaded farmland in Western Australia, the government sent in soldiers with machine guns to deal with the problem. What followed became one of the strangest and funniest military stories in history: The Great Emu War. In this episode of Arthur Archives, we look at how a group of giant birds somehow managed to embarrass an actual military operation, why the farmers were so desperate, and how the emus became unlikely legends. A ridiculous story then. A ridiculous story now. Subscribe for more strange, funny, and forgotten stories from history.
