Tom T Hall, 'That's How I Got to Memphis' live on 'Nashville Now', 1989
Country Music Hall of Fame member and master songwriter Tom T. Hall performs his song "That's How I Got to Memphis" live on the TV series "Nashville Now" in 1989, accompanied by the "Nashville Now" band. Included on Hall's 1969 album "Ballad of Forty Dollars and His Other Great Songs," "That's How I Got to Memphis" had been recorded and released by a mix of other prominent artists by the time of this performance — it was a #3 hit for fellow Hall of Fame member Bobby Bare in 1970, and a family collaboration for Rosanne Cash, who brought her father, Hall of Fame member Johnny Cash, in for "Memphis" background vocals on her 1982 album "Somewhere in the Stars." "I like to sing it myself every now and then," Hall says before this "Nashville Now" performance, "because I heard it first. You know, I made it up." Learn more about Tom T.
