How To Insert Fin Blades into Foot Pockets | ADRENO

Adreno's Lucas Handley, The Underwater Hunter, details the simple steps to inserting new fin blades. Putting fin blades into foot pockets can be one of the more tedious and fiddly tasks involved in diving. When you progress from plastic blades to fibreglass or carbon fibre blades you have the option to use the same foot pocket with your blade. Firstly ensure that your foot pocket and your blade are compatible. Line the base of the blade up with the bottom of the foot pocket and push the blade in. You might need to use a considerable bit of force here. Next, you need to attach the foot pocket rails to the rails of the blade. This can be done by bending the foot pocket rails outwards which flexes the rubber and allows it to fold over the rail of the blade. Use a fin fixing kit to secure the blade to the foot pocket. Using glue means that the change is permanent and you can’t interchange blades again. Alternatively, you can drill the blades in. Match the drill bit to the size of the holes in the foot pocket and drill through the blade. Apply a plug to the top of the holes and drill the screws through the bottom of the blade into the plug. Finally, you’ll need to clip the rails together to further secure the blades. This also takes a fair bit of force and persistence!
