3 Things Done Well: Dustin Wolf
The second video in the Things Done Well series features Calgary Flames/Wranglers goaltender Dustin Wolf. At well under the NHL standard height of 6'2, Wolf plays like he's 6'5 with an elite mix of mobility, positioning, and patience on his edges. This video features 3 things that I personally think he does very well (of course there are many more). The 3 things are: Puckhandling. He won't make the long stretch pass often but more so consistently makes the simple plays to make the life of his D much easier in the D zone, and with breaking out of the zone. Tracking shots off his body. I get a real sense watching him that his job is only ever half done whenever he makes a save, and the later half comes with keeping his eyes glued to the rebound and immediately lining up to the puck. Patience on his edges. Specifically, meeting shots as they arrive to him rather than getting caught behind or dropping too early. This affords him the ability to make last-second adjustments, are relies on a good posture and foot width in his stance, not getting too wide or locked out. 0:00 Introduction 0:09 Disclaimer 0:23 Puckhandling (make your D's job as easy as possible) 1:14 Tracking Shots Out (Job is only half done after a save) 2:13 Patience on his Edges (Meet shots as they arrive)
