The Best Value In Switch 2 Docks? Antank S3 Pro-2 Dock Review
In this episode, we unbox and thoroughly test out the Antank S3 Pro-2, a highly anticipated third-party dock designed specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2. If you want a sleek, portable alternative to the bulky official dock, you are in the right place. Finding the best Switch 2 accessories can be overwhelming with so many options on the market, so let's dive into why this compact powerhouse might just be the perfect upgrade for your ultimate gaming setup. During the original Nintendo Switch era, I tested a ton of third-party docks. It was a subject I found fascinating, but it was also an area plagued by massive consumer confusion. Here is the deal: early on in the life cycle of the original Switch, a third-party dock hit the market that had the potential to harm your system. The issue was an out-of-spec power supply that failed to properly negotiate voltage changes when connecting to the TV. When that happened, it blew an internal fuse on the motherboard, requiring a costly repair directly from Nintendo. Because of that history, some gamers still believe that all third-party docks from any manufacturer will inevitably damage your Switch. While I completely understand the hesitation, I do not share that concern today. This Power Delivery issue was resolved many years ago, and importantly, has not plagued the Nintendo Switch 2 at all. Modern gaming accessories are built to much stricter USB-C standards. The golden rule for total peace of mind? Simply use the OEM Nintendo power supply. Plug the official Switch 2 AC adapter into this dock, and you are golden. Let’s look at the design and build quality of the Antank S3 Pro-2. Right out of the box, it impresses with a premium, all-aluminum low-profile design. This metal construction actively works as an additional heat sink, efficiently dissipating heat away from the system during intense gaming sessions. It is incredibly compact, making it a breeze to toss into a backpack for easy transport and multiplayer gaming on the go. Despite its small footprint, the Antank S3 Pro-2 integrates all the essential connectivity you expect. You will find high-speed USB ports for controllers, a standard HDMI port for crisp television output, and a dedicated USB-C port for power. A standout feature is the built-in toggle switch. With a simple press, you can swap between charging the system in tabletop mode and outputting video to your TV. The USB-C connector rests on a clever retractable tray, protecting the fragile pin from transport damage. If the form factor looks familiar, it is from the same base manufacturer as the SIWIQ dock. I have personally used that older model for almost a year with zero issues. Knowing its pedigree, I had extremely high expectations going into my testing. One of the first things I tested was case compatibility. I wanted to see if I could use a standard dockable case with the S3 Pro-2. While the initial fit seemed promising, the USB-C connector on the retractable tray simply did not reach far enough into the console to initiate the video handoff. Bummer. From there, I connected the bare system normally and got to testing. Capturing pristine high-resolution gameplay footage during my review, everything looked and played beautifully. I could not tell a single difference between the original Nintendo dock and this aluminum alternative. I noticed zero additional input lag, latency, or anything negative that would impact gameplay. In short, it worked exactly as it should. Why It RoX Incredible Value: Readily available for under $40, saving you money for more games. Premium Build: The all-aluminum design is incredibly durable and aids in cooling. Full Connectivity: Integrates all the essential ports from the original hardware. Reliability: No setup required—it just works right out of the box! What Could Be Improved Power Supply Sold Separately: You must provide your own dedicated USB-C wall charger. Case Incompatibility: Does not work with thick, dockable grip cases. Should You Buy One? The big takeaway is that you still need to supply power, and I highly recommend sticking with the official Nintendo AC adapter. Even with that extra cost, this setup is considerably less expensive than buying a secondary OEM dock. For those worried this lacks a built-in fan, remember the fan inside the official dock cools the dock's internal chipsets, not the console itself. If you remove the minor annoyance of not being able to use dockable cases, this is an almost perfect device. I absolutely love the way it works, and this will now be my daily driver in our living room.
