Shrimping the South Sound for coon stripe and side stripe shrimp.

Marine area 13. Lots of shrimping opportunities around the many islands located south of the Tacoma Narrows bridge. Shrimping is open 24/7 for Coon Stripe after the Spot Prawn season up north ends until October 15th. 200’ maximum depth restriction. Coon Stripes are about half the size of Spot prawns but are sweeter and cook up on the bbq nicely. We freeze them in packs of 50 to eat all year long. McKay Shrimp Pots made a couple of extra large Coon Stipe pots for me and they are fishing great compared to the other brand I was using. These pots have smaller mesh than Spot prawn pots.
