Using Sustainable Farming Practices in Northwestern Minnesota

On their 1,250-acre Trinity Farms in NW Minnesota, David Miller, and his daughter Mikayla Tabert, and son-in-law Ben Tabert grow diversified crops, including corn, wheat, fescue, soybeans, wheat, sunflowers, field peas and canola. They also raise 150 pairs of beef cattle. They started no-till farming in 1994, and growing cover crops in 2012. They have been working with the NRCS for many years on several Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) projects. They grow cover crops on 90% of their acres and they strip-graze their cattle. They discuss the benefits of no-till farming and growing cover crops on the soil health on their farm.
