The girl hosting us told us she was originally from a town called ZALOW. Now try saying that word out loud and tell me if it's not the most brutal word you've ever heard in your entire life. The moment she uttered those two syllables, Yogev looked at me and we both immediately knew what it meant - this must be the title of the most brutal jazz piece ever written. Fast forward two years. We are performing ZALOW for the first time at the same festival. The crowd cracks up when I grab the mic and ask ".. so who here is from Zalow?", apparently everyone was. On that day, I swore to all Romanians attending the festival that I would do everything in my power to proclaim this song as the anthem of the city Zalow, and that I won't rest until it becomes the recess theme in every high school.
