(affiliate link) ************************************************************ Tour details at a glance: We start in Garmisch-Partenkirchen at the famous ski jump. The New Year's ski jumping competition always takes place here. We first hike through the beautiful Partnach Gorge. From here, we continue into the Reintal valley. After 15 kilometers, we reach the Reintalangerhütte mountain hut. This section is also part of the hike to the Zugspitze summit via the Reintal valley. From the Reintalangerhütte, we first head to the source of the Partnach river and then climb steep switchbacks up to the Knorrhütte mountain hut. The Knorrhütte is one of the most beautifully situated mountain huts in Bavaria. It's also the closest to the Zugspitze. From here, we can already clearly see the Zugspitze cable car. From the Knorrhütte, we hike via the Gatterl. The Gatterl route is also one of the most popular and probably the easiest route to the Zugspitze. The impressive border pass offers us stunning views back into the Reintal valley and into Austria. Now we walk on the Austrian side, passing chamois and countless marmots. After a few uphill sections, we reach the Ehrwalder Alm. We descend via the Ehrwalder Almsee lake into the valley to Ehrwald.
