Geoffrey Wellum passes away (1921 - 2018) (UK) - BBC News - 20th July 2018
Geoffrey Wellum was the youngest spitfire pilot to serve in the Battle of Britain in 1940 (during World War Two). Here, he is remembered and his life as a fighter pilot. He passed away aged 96. He is one of the last of Battle of Britain 'few' that were still alive at in the first half of the year 2018 (CE). The 'few' refers to a speech made by Winston Churchill on the 20th August 1940: "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few", referring to the ongoing efforts of the Royal Air Force crews who were at the time fighting the Battle of Britain.
