Canon New F-1 Review

In today’s episode, Greg and I review the Canon New F-1, Canon’s third professional 35mm single lens reflex camera introduced in September 1981 and produced until 1992 and sold until 1994.  Some historical context first: The original F-1 released in 1970 was the result of five years of development, and directed at professional photographers. It was Canon’s answer to the Nikon F and was briefly the most advanced camera until Nikon released the F-2 in 1971. The original Canon F-1 also introduced the Canon FD mount but was also compatible with some earlier lens mounts. There are three different versions of the camera all marked Canon F-1. The original Canon F-1, a revised version often called F-1n and the new F-1 which was the successor and is discussed in this video. It is a more advanced camera than the original ones which is slightly confusing. We took the camera on a photo walk around Würzburg. In the morning when it was still overcast, we shot some Lomography Color 92 (which I had reviewed together with Marc Rebillet here on the channel). Once we had more light available, we switched to Ilford Delta 100 to capture some architecture and street shots. Since we got the opportunity to test the camera with the fantastic 50mm f/1.2 Canon FD lens, we also took some shots at the widest open aperture.
