SARIE MARAIS // South African Folk Song
A traditional South African song, sung in Afrikaans and accompanied on the piano accordion. The precise origins of this song are unknown, but it was either created during the first or second Boer war in South Africa, which was fought against British troops around the end of the 19th century. The tune and concept of Sarie Marais is most probably inspired on the 1865 American civil war song Sweet Ellie Rhee. All is recorded live in a single take. Thanks for listening!
