In the brotherhood parade for the San Buenaventura festivities in Latacunga, the five main characters of Mama Negra are the essence of the parade, accompanied by traditional troupes from Cotopaxi, the "negritos" (little black men) who carry the heavy loads (Ashangueros), the Capariches, local bands, and even groups of dancers. The San Buenaventura festivities, celebrated on July 15th, have become a folkloric, cultural, and religious spectacle in Ecuador.
