Join VES Golf as we head to Growling Frog Golf Course in Yan Yean, Victoria. This is a course that we always enjoy, no matter what the scorecard says at the end of the round. Ranked among Australia's best public access golf courses, Growling Frog combines outstanding course design, beautiful natural surroundings and a huge amount of Australiana with native flora, fauna and wildlife, everywhere you look. With cool, overcast conditions and rain threatening all morning, we were hoping the weather would hold out long enough to enjoy everything the course had to offer. Just 40 minutes north of Melbourne CBD, Growling Frog Golf Course is one of Victoria's hidden gems. Designed by Australian golf legend Graham Marsh, this spectacular layout winds through 280 acres of bushland and wetlands, surrounded by ancient River Red Gums, native wildlife and stunning views towards the southern edge of the Great Dividing Range. In this video, we play the front nine holes (1–9) in cool, overcast conditions with a steady breeze throughout the round. By the 8th hole, the weather began to turn, and by the 9th we were playing in proper rain. We also spotted our first kangaroo of the day on Hole 8 – always a welcome sight when playing golf in Australia. From elevated tee boxes and strategic bunkering to native bushland and wetland corridors, it's a course that offers plenty of variety and rewards thoughtful golf. One bonus of the deteriorating weather was the opportunity to put the VES Golf Quarter-Zip, Performance Golf Pants and, later in the round, the all-important Water-Resistant Jacket to the test, all performed well and kept us warm and dry whilst not restricting any movements.
