ADRIA 450: Smrtící mlha na Ruzyni | Nejtragičtější letecká nehoda v ČR (Dokument CZ)

On October 30, 1975, a tragic accident occurred near Suchdol in Prague involving Adria Flight 450, which was operating from Tivat in former Yugoslavia to Prague. The McDonnell Douglas DC-9, registration YU-AJO, descended below a safe flight profile during its approach in dense fog and crashed into a hillside near a garden colony in Horní Sedlec. The disaster claimed dozens of lives and remains one of the deadliest aviation accidents in the history of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. In this documentary, we take a detailed look at the final minutes of Adria Flight 450, the weather conditions over Prague, period radio navigation procedures, and the NDB approach used at the time. We also examine the impact of the runway 31 lighting failure, the inoperative ILS and PAR systems on runway 25, and the increased workload faced by the crew in the cockpit. You will learn how approaches to Prague Ruzyně Airport were conducted in the 1970s, why modern satellite navigation was not available, and how a complex chain of events led to the Yugoslav DC-9 ending up more than 8 kilometers from the runway. The documentary also covers the investigation itself, including analysis of survivor testimonies, limited technical evidence, and a broader perspective on why, even after more than 50 years, the exact events in the cockpit during the final seconds before the crash remain unclear. This film is intended for anyone interested in aviation accidents, the history of civil aviation, navigation procedures, operations at Prague Ruzyně Airport, and events that significantly shaped Czechoslovak aviation.
