Storm Lilian barrelled into Northern England over the August bank Holiday with 80 mile winds. Needless to say we didn’t fancy driving in that so delayed our departure to 10am :( then traveled on the M6 instead of the A66 to avoid the worst, but it was still bad enough! Finally arrived at Culzean Castle Camping & Caravan Club site with a friendly welcome despite us being the last to arrive. There are some fantastic sea view pitches here, we were in the second row and still had a view over to Arran. You could literally see the rain coming in over the sea before it reached us. The site has very nice shower block, (much more modern than Beadnell Bay if you’ve been there) and direct access into the Country Park which is huge and lots of paths to explore including the coastal path. We decided to join the National Trust for Scotland whilst there so we could visit the castle itself, it’s cheaper to join than the English version but you can still visit other trust sites in the UK & worldwide. We even learnt President Eisenhower had his own flat in the castle, his Scottish holiday home! Overall, we had a great time exploring all day, but still recovering from Covid we were knackered!
