Mit dem "Roten Flitzer" auf der Biberbahn

On July 11, 2026, the popular red railbus, known as the "Red Speedster," will transport visitors on the Ablach Valley Railway to the town festival in Meßkirch and to the 750th anniversary celebrations in Mengen. The "Red Speedster," owned by the Kornwestheim Railbus Preservation Society, is a legendary, two-axle, lightweight railcar built by the Uerdingen Wagon Factory. Known as the "Savior of Branch Lines," it shaped passenger transport on the German Federal Railway from the 1950s onward. Its cost-effective operation on less profitable branch lines helped delay or prevent closures. Thanks to its panoramic windows, which offered all-around visibility, and its fold-down seatbacks, the railbus quickly became immensely popular. At the town festival in Meßkirch, the historic center offers many attractions, including live music, market stalls, and regional specialties. With the "Red Speedster" back in Mengen, the 750th anniversary celebrations will also feature a historical craft and farmers' market and musical performances. On July 12, before the "Red Arrow" train returns to Kornwestheim, there will be shuttle services on the Danube Valley Railway between Sigmaringen and Riedlingen.
