שלח - מהי "אמונה" בדרגה הגבוהה ביותר?!? | "חטא המרגלים"- טעות היסטורית, דק מן הדק | רבי דוד בכר
Our parsha deals with something that has affected the entire history of the generations, and it is the matter of the ‘parsha of the spies.’ After they returned from exploring the land and spying on it, it was the 8th of Av, and then they spread a bad slander against it and caused the entire nation to cry. That night they cried was the night of the 9th of Av, as it is written: “And the whole assembly lifted up their voice, and the people wept that night” (14:1). The Gemara says in the Taanit chapter 29:1 – God, blessed be He, said to them, to Israel, ‘You have cried with a cry of in vain, and I appoint for you a weeping for generations.’ Therefore, to this day, the entire nation of Israel sits and weeps every year on the night of the 9th of Av over the destruction of the First and Second Temples, which the Lord God had built in the wilderness. But this date was determined because of that weeping of the generation of the wilderness. The entire generation of the desert were further punished, not to enter the Land of Israel because they complained and said, "If only we had died in the land of Egypt or in this desert, we would have died." And God, blessed be He, said to Moses, "But I live" - says Rashi, in the language of an oath. "For all the people who have seen My glory and My signs that I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tested Me these ten times and have not listened to My voice. If they see the land that I swore to their fathers, and none of those who despised Me will see it" (ibid. 21-23). However, one must understand how it is possible that God, blessed be He, brought such a great punishment upon them for such a small act?!? Both weeping for generations, and also that the entire generation of the desert will not be allowed to enter the Land? And how do we know that their act is indeed small? After all, in the Yalkut Shimoni at the beginning of the parashah, the entire dialogue that took place between Moses and the people of Israel and the late Moses is presented: 'Israel said, Moses our Lord, men were sent before us. He said to them: Why? They said to him: The Holy One, the Blessed One, has already promised us that we are entering the land of Canaan and inheriting all good things. And they have heard that we are entering. If they bury their treasure and find nothing, the Holy One's word will be found to be null. Rather, they will go as spies." In other words, they supposedly came claiming "the glory of Heaven." We fear that the Holy One's word will be null and void, and then there will be a blasphemy against God. And even Moses, may God be pleased with him, did not sense this mistake that they had, as the book continues. "When Moses heard this, he was caught in their hands, as it is said, 'And it pleased me well..'" - Moses, who, by his power and wisdom, would have known every person according to all the most hidden aspects of his soul's powers, as it is written: "And you shall discern all the people" (Exodus 18:21) - say the Sages that Moses discerned according to the wisdom of the face. And yet he did not dwell on the error of the people of Israel and believed that indeed their intention was for the sake of Heaven. Therefore, Moses was not punished for accepting their words, because if it were depicted that they had asked him to commit a transgression from the Torah and he had agreed, there is no doubt that he would have been punished, but here God did not come to sue Moses. Rabbi Dessler writes in the letter to Elihu, part 1, page 187 that the spies' mistake was necessarily the smallest of mistakes and could not have been overturned, not even by a great man like Moses our Lord. Therefore, God said to Moses, "Send men for you, and they will give you the land of Canaan." The holy Rashi says: Go - according to your own will. I do not command you, if you wish, send. Therefore. And it is incomprehensible.. If there is such a great sin here, why do you agree to send them? But surely the spies' error of thought was very subtle, and God did not complain to Moses about why He was sending them, He only told him, "Send" of your own accord if you wish. If so, then what is the punishment?! In this lesson we will learn that there are actually three levels of faith in God, and there is a level that is the highest of the highest, this faith is the faith that was actually required of the Jewish people in order to be granted the right to enter the Land of Israel. We will also learn the words of Rabbi Chaim of Volzhin that everything a person does, he does for himself. There is no punishment here, there is a natural consequence of things that a person creates for himself during the span of his life here in this world. "Hear and live your souls..."
