HOW IT ALL BEGAN THE JOURNEY BEGAN ON THE GREAT PLAINS OF COLORADO Five Rivers Cattle Feeding, LLC, credits the nation's most complete beef operation: Monfort of Colorado, Inc. After returning from World War I in the late 1920s, Warren H. Monfort began farming north of Greeley, Colorado. In 1930, during the Great Depression, Mr. Monfort became a pioneer in quality cattle feed and was one of the first in the industry to begin supplying quality-fed cattle to packing plants year-round. Monfort's feedlot grew rapidly, reaching a capacity of 3,500 head during World War II—a huge number for that time. In 1966, the flaked corn processing method was first implemented at Monfort's feedlot. By 1968, the operation had become the world's first 100,000-head feedlot.
