Decades of abuse of thousands of young men by staff at a detention centre in County Durham was "ignored and dismissed" by the prison service, police and Home Office, an investigation has found. The prisons and probation ombudsman has published a report into how "horrific" physical and sexual violence was allowed to continue against 17 to 21 year olds at the Medomsley Detention Centre in Consett.
