Perhaps the winter months have taken a toll on your seat belts by leaving salt stains, dirt, coffee, or other gunk you just don't want. With 6 items and about an hour and a half of your time you can get your seat belts cleaned up with everyday household items. Our method can be done without necessarily buying anything, as these items are usually found in your house already. You need a bucket large enough to fit your seat belt in without making a mess, some dish soap, something to clamp the seat belt with, we suggest using an actual clamp, a cleaning brush, a hair dryer, and a towel or two. If you don't have a clamp like the one we have in our video you can always try to stuff a small towel end into the seat belt's retraction hole, or even pinch the belt lightly with the door or window. The first step is to fill the bucket with warm soapy water and prepare the seat belt for cleaning. You'll want to put the towel on the seat of the car in case any water spills out. It's also important that the seat is level so the bucket wont tip over. Pull the seat belt out and clamp it at it's fullest extent then submerge as much of the belt as possible. For the most part the most frequently exposed part of the seat belt will be submerged in water, as it's impossible to get all of it at once. You may choose to move the bucket after to get the upper and lower parts of the belt that weren't cleaned during this first step. Leave the belt submerged in bucket with soapy water for approximately an hour. Afterwards remove the belt and pat dry with the towel after moving the bucket out of the way. Use the brush with a bit of soapy water to clean any stubborn stains or messes and scrub with the direction of the seat belt material, usually the length of the belt, not the width. Once you're satisfied that the belt is clean on both sides use the hair dryer and towel to clean the belt, and leave it to air dry overnight if possible. You don't want to retract the belt immediately if it's still damp as it could cause mold issues if left for too long. Repeat this process for all the seat belts in your car!
