MacPro 1.1-5.1 front USB panel upgrade
In this video, I’m showing the progress on my custom front USB hub for the Mac Pro “Cheesegrater” project. The goal was to design a clean front-panel solution with modern connectivity while keeping the original aesthetic of the classic Mac Pro. This custom board features: • 2 × USB-C ports • 2 × USB-A ports • Built-in audio DAC • Custom PCB designed specifically for the 1.1-5.1 case (it only works with conversion) • Original Power Button with LED This video covers part of the build process, including SMT assembly, reflow soldering, through-hole assembly, installation, and testing of the latest prototype. There’s still some work left to do, but it’s exciting to finally see everything coming together. If you’re interested in the project, I’m planning to make it available on Crowd Supply shortly. Let me know what you think in the comments — and I’d love to hear ideas for future projects you’d like to see on the channel.
