Joining the core Puscifer trio of Maynard James Keenan, Mat Mitchell and Carina Round are Gunnar Olsen (drums), Greg Edwards (bass) and Juliette Commagere (vocals/keyboards). Maynard James Keenan. I wanted to show a bit of that inventiveness by tracing the evolution of one of Puscifer’s songs over 15 years (and this is still a small sampling, as every remix and live performance is different). We start with the original track’s music video, from their 2007 debut studio album “V is for Vag.” Solid title. The second version is from their 2013 live album and concert film “What is…” (named for the band’s slogan “What is Puscifer?”). Note that by this time Carina Round had begun regularly working as second vocalist and occasionally on guitar or banjo. The third version is from one of two concert films released for the 15th anniversary of their first album, 2022’s “V is for Versatile.” Anyway, I think the song is kind of an homage to Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man” and a slight jab at Metallica’s famously sappy “Mama Said.” That’s my impression at least.
