Audio recordings of the first major Auschwitz trial, 1963–1965 Prisoner Part 77 - Witness: Hugo Breiden - Day 73 of the trial Source: https://www.auschwitz-prozess.de/ From December 20, 1963, the largest criminal trial in postwar German history was held in Frankfurt. It involved three judges and six jurors, four prosecutors, three representatives of the victims, 19 defense attorneys, and 22 defendants. For the witnesses who had survived the camp, testifying was extremely distressing. After twenty years, they relived the horrific events. Moreover, they were pressured by the defense, which questioned the veracity of their accounts. Breaks were frequently necessary because a witness had reached their limit. The testimonies of the former prisoners evoked shock and disbelief in the audience. A total of 360 witnesses were heard. On May 6, 1965, after 154 days of trial proceedings, the taking of evidence was concluded.
