In Bolu, Oğan Demiral (40) established a mushroom production facility on a 100-square-meter plot, investing 70,000 Turkish Lira. Demiral, who achieved a turnover of 20,000 Turkish Lira in 45-50 days, harvested his first harvest of cultivated mushrooms, for which the Bolu Municipality guaranteed purchase. The Bolu Municipality, in collaboration with Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University (BAİBÜ), opened a cultivated mushroom production course to open new income streams for the public through agricultural projects. After attending and completing the course, Oğan Demiral decided to pursue mushroom farming. Demiral established a mushroom production facility on an approximately 100-square-meter plot in the Seyit neighborhood, investing 70,000 Turkish Lira. Demiral harvested his first harvest of cultivated mushrooms, for which the Bolu Municipality guaranteed purchase. THE MUNICIPALITY BUYS ALL OF OUR PRODUCTION Oğan Demiral, explaining that he employs four people for mushroom production, said, "I'd been doing this for a year. But I wasn't doing it consciously. Thanks to a course offered by our municipality, I started producing mushrooms consciously. This is a business with a capacity of approximately 10 tons. We buy 2.5 tons of mushrooms for every 10 tons. The municipality helps with the sales. This is a great convenience. The municipality buys all of our production. We've made an agreement. We employ four people. They work on a daily basis. We also have one permanent employee." 20,000 TL TURNOVER IN 45-50 DAYS Demiral explained that a 20,000 TL turnover can be achieved in 45-60 days with an expenditure of approximately 70,000 TL on a 100-square-meter area. "You need 100 square meters of space," he said. "You can start this business with an expenditure of approximately 50,000-60,000 TL. With an expenditure of approximately 70,000 TL, you can achieve a 20,000 TL turnover in approximately 45-50 days. This can vary depending on the mushroom's emergence. If I were to give an average figure, a turnover of approximately 20,000 TL can be achieved in 50-60 days." NET PROFIT 7,000-8,000 TL Oğan Demiral, explaining that the Bolu Municipality assists producers with expenses, stated that the net profit is 7,000-8,000 TL. He said, "The municipality doesn't collect the expenses upfront. It collects them at the end of the season, after harvest. This provides an advantage because it pays in installments. A net profit of approximately 7,000-8,000 TL can be achieved from a 20,000 TL turnover. As with any business, this has its challenges. It requires attention. There are tasks that need to be done. If not attended to, the crop can suffer damage. It's important to apply pesticides at the right time. Our products are very sensitive. I attended a course offered by our municipality. We also learned about mushroom cultivation there. We learned practical applications there. We learned both theoretical and practical aspects of mushroom cultivation."
