In the heart of glamorous Saigon during the years 1959–1969, a small, thatched-roof temple stood quietly at the corner of Tran Quoc Toan and Lo Sieu streets in District 11. By day, the abbess diligently made incense, prepared condiments, and chanted Buddhist scriptures. At night, this same woman printed leaflets, sewed flags, hid C4 explosives under the Buddha statue, and guided a series of battles that shook the world. She was Venerable Nun Thich Nu Dieu Thong, whose secular name was Pham Thi Bach Lien, and whose alias was Huyen Trang – the real-life inspiration for the legendary nun Huyen Trang in the film "Saigon Commandos".
