Fabada (Asturian bean stew), cocido (Spanish stew), lentils, meatballs, tripe, stewed pig's ear, and more. In Spain, canned food is much more prevalent than you might think. In any supermarket, you can find a complete meal in a can for around €1… but there's a difference between it being cheap and it being good. Today I came to Mercadona to buy and try all the canned ready meals I could find: Asturian fabada, Madrid cocido, Rioja-style lentils, chickpeas with vegetables, meatballs in sauce, chicken meatballs, Madrid-style tripe, stewed pig's ear, beans with tomato, and more. The idea was simple: to see how much they yield, what they taste like, if they're really worth it, and which one is the best… or the worst. Some surprised me quite a bit, and one was downright disgusting.
