In this session, we'll step away from the glitz and glamour to delve deeper into what Jesus truly proposes in the Sermon on the Mount. Drawing on Matthew 6, we'll reflect on that very human tendency to "sound the trumpet" when we help others, especially in an era where social media pushes us to validate our kindness through a photo. Also citing challenging texts like Jeremiah 17 and Hebrews 13, we'll explore that generosity isn't a transaction to cleanse our conscience or gain religious status, but rather the natural result of a life of intimacy with the Father. We remember Jesus' model of radical love: he not only gave resources, but he also engaged with the excluded of his time—lepers, ostracized women, and the lonely—giving them the most valuable things we have: time, a listening ear, and dignity. In a world marked by inequality, where extreme luxury coexists with the precariousness of those who scavenge for food in the garbage, our faith calls us to a compassion that hurts and moves us to step out of our comfort zone to serve in secret.
