For several families, the dream of owning their own home was shattered. 🏡 They trusted an entrepreneur who promised them single-family homes – and were left stranded on a construction site. In the end, they lost almost everything: their savings, pension fund assets, several hundred thousand francs. The Bern Cantonal Bank (BEKB) granted the most mortgages in Roggwil, namely eight out of eleven. Did it look the other way for too long? Our research shows: BEKB played a special role in the project. Homeowners say the bank didn't take their concerns seriously. And: There was a long-standing business relationship between the entrepreneur who promised the houses and a senior BEKB employee.
