Cutting Cabin Posts and Preserving Salmon in Remote Alaska

Today on the homestead we headed into the snow to cut new cabin posts for our new (bigger) cabin. While we worked on the posts, the smoker was full of more salmon to be canned up. Now is the time to get frozen fillets from summer out of the freezer, and stock the pantry. After a few months in the freezer salmon fillets loose quality. We are hopeful for some new game meat to be filling up the freezer soon! To wrap up the day, we made a hearty salmon chowder using our home-smoked salmon with garden fresh carrots and potatoes.
