The University of Leeds: Nature Rich Miterdale: A Community- Led Landscape for Skills & Wellbeing

The grant award supports staff salaries, volunteer expenses & training over 2 years. Led by the University of Leeds, School of Earth and Environment department in partnership with Forestry England, the National Trust, and local stakeholders. Nature Rich Miterdale is a, community-led conservation and skills development programme based in the Miterdale Valley, West Cumbria. The initiative aims to restore 200 hectares of wildlife-rich habitat while engaging local residents in nature-based volunteering, education, and employment pathways. The project builds on the success of Hardknott Forest Restoration project and is designed to be inclusive, accessible, and impactful, particularly for individuals and communities with limited access to nature and green jobs.
