Load carrying capacity of column | Problem 1 | Design of steel structures

In this video we'll discuss what are ccompression members and how to determine load carrying capacity (Pd) and design compressive stress (fcd) of column. Compression members are those which are subjected to axial loading which tries to compress the member. Further in this video we will discuss a numerical on determining design compressive stress of any given column. One thing to know that the length and of the column is its effective length which is the length of the column when it is buckled. You must calculate slenderness ratio from the effective length and use the Steel code IS 800:2000 to determine the design compressive stress (fcd) of the member in the appropriate buckling class table.
