#podcast #rtmrecords #youngspray #queenicecream #dwainepatterson “Only in the darkness can you see the stars.” We’ve been patiently waiting for this one for ages and now probation has finally allowed him to share his story, so for Season 8 Episode 9 (Hope) we welcomed one of the prison systems most infamous inmates Dwaine Patterson (Yusuf) to receive some RTM flowers for how he’s been able to change his life around from negative to positive. He talked us through his upbringing, including school days; getting expelled and ending up in the care system, despite having a big family. We touched on what triggered him to initially become so violent. Serving 5 years in secure unit and young offenders from the age of 13-18, before then serving 22 and a half years out of a life sentence, with 7 years being spent in solitary confinement; he has managed to rack up Nelson Mandela numbers behind the door. We spoke about all his time in prison and how at one point he thought he was going to die in there. He spoke on how he was falsely accused of stuff, simply because he held a major influence on the Muslim community in prison. We also highlighted the fact that there is so much unfair treatment of some inmates such as Abdur Raheem (Kaos) and that they are in our thoughts and prayers. Since his release, he has been on strict conditions but has still been able to maintain a job, even though it was hard getting one at first. He pays homage to ‘Grapplezone’ for giving him that opportunity. He has recently managed to get a new job with St Giles Trust where he intends to mentor kids and use his past experiences to help the future of the youth. We wish him all the best in his endeavours. We then put him through his very own ‘Halal Fire Round’ before getting into some ‘Current Affairs’. After the ‘RTM Banter’, the main subject was ‘Hope’.
