Wood Ash Glaze Recipe – Zircon Test (Cone 9 Results)
In this video I show how a simple addition of zircon can turn a traditional wood ash glaze into a white, opaque surface. Starting from a straightforward recipe (wood ash and nepheline syenite with a small amount of kaolin), I test different zircon levels to see how the glaze changes. The results move from a typical transparent, slightly green ash glaze to a much more stable, milky white finish. This is a practical test, not a lab setup. The goal is to show how zircon affects opacity, surface quality, and glaze movement in a real working process. Tested at Cone 9. Discussion includes Cone 6 behavior.
