Thornbury & South Gloucestershire MRC 57th Annual Model Railway Show - Sunday 23rd December 2025
Hi and welcome back. Avoiding the bunfight at the NEC, otherwise known as the National Festival of Railway Modelling, I took myself off to Thornbury, South Gloucestershire, for Thornbury & South Gloucestershire Model Railway Clubs 57th annual model railway exhibition. This was a show that id not previously visited, either at its current venue - Turnberries Community Centre - or its previous location - the Castle Chantry. The show had a great selection of exhibits, including many layouts I dont recall ever seeing before and a small number of trade stands. Layouts on show: Train Trailer - The rear half of a Suzuki? car has been turned into a trailer and filled with a 2mm scale N gauge railway! Wantage Tramway - Not 100% sure, but I think its 4mm scale, narrow gauge. City Basin Goods - 2mm scale goods yard and parcels depot in the days of BR green and blue diesels. Nottingham Victoria - 4mm scale model of part of this long closed station. Blagdon - 4mm scale version of the former GW branch terminus is North West Somerset. Burnham on Sea - 2mm finescale model of the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway terminus on the Bristol channel coast. Lintor Town - 4mm scale GWR branchline terminus. Look out for the working semaphore signals. Thursley - a 7mm O gauge branchline terminus. Features dcc sound. Hagbourne Road - another former GWR branchline terminus in 4mm scale. Iron Mould Lane - 4mm scale iron works - a gritty setting with much detail to take in - including the poor man, squashed by the Bristol Lodekka bus. Puffin Colliery - 4mm scale colliery layout featuring OO9 narrow gauge trains and standard gauge trains. Memory Lane - 4mm scale Hornby Dublo and other vintage trains showing how toy trains used to be. Heybridge Wharf - 3mm scale layout, that is a frequent exhibit on the circuit. Some very fine detail to observe. Binegar - 2mm scale model of the Somerset and Dorset station in North Somerset, deep into the climb upto Masbury summit. My best in show - but Im biased as a hardened S&D lover! Calderbridge - Large, n gauge roundy roundy, featuring BR blue and green diesels. Devils Bridge V.O.R. - The Vale of Rheidol's terminus station in 4mm scale. Tyn-Y-Coadcae - 7mm o gauge single line, end to end layout. Steam era. My apologies to the owner of Bishops Castle, which I forgot to revisit and film. I hope you enjoy the film as much as i enjoyed attending. Please feel free to comment, like and share. Subscribe to the channel to keep up to date with all my content. By for now!
