[Report] President Lee Jae-myung has begun his state visit to Mongolia, marking the first time a South Korean president has done so in 15 years. Today, he will hold a summit with Mongolian President Khurelsukh, and proceed with an exchange ceremony for agreements and MOUs, as well as a joint press conference. The two countries are expected to announce a "Joint Declaration on the Golden Age of Korea-Mongolia Relations" and declare their intention to usher in an era of "500,000 people-to-people exchanges" by 2030, marking the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations. In particular, there are plans to expand cooperation on critical minerals with Mongolia, a resource-rich nation. In an interview with local media released today, President Lee emphasized, "Mongolia, with its excellent mineral resources, and Korea, possessing mineral exploration and development technology and manufacturing innovation capabilities, can become important supply chain cooperation partners." He also emphasized that moving forward, the two countries must go beyond joint participation in mining development and establish a cooperation model capable of adding value across the entire supply chain. He also expressed hope that Mongolia, which has maintained traditional friendly relations with North Korea, could contribute to peace on the Korean Peninsula. President Lee stated, "Mongolia is a trusted peace partner and a nation that communicates with North Korea," and urged the country to "make a greater contribution to the peace and stability of Northeast Asia." President Lee plans to attend the Korea-Mongolia Business Forum this evening to call for expanded cooperation between the two countries in key minerals and infrastructure.
