The Public Prosecutor's Office of the National Court has ordered the dismissal of the preliminary proceedings opened following the complaint filed against singer Julio Iglesias, after determining that Spanish courts lack jurisdiction to examine the alleged events. After taking statements on Tuesday and Wednesday from the artist's two former employees as protected witnesses, the Public Prosecutor's Office concluded that it does not have the authority to conduct a pre-trial investigation. Had the investigation proceeded, it would have examined alleged crimes of human trafficking, sexual assault, harassment, physical abuse, and breach of employment duties attributed to Julio Iglesias and two other individuals. The artist's lawyers have expressed their satisfaction with the Public Prosecutor's decision. In its arguments, the Public Prosecutor's Office emphasizes that "all of the allegedly criminal acts occurred outside of Spanish territory," specifically in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. It was also stated that the individuals named in the complaint "neither reside in Spain nor maintain their center of life, interests, or activity in this country, regardless of whether Julio Iglesias owns real estate."
