Buffy: New Sunnydale | Confirmed Title, Cast, Story Direction & Delays

With Sarah Michelle Gellar back to reprise her role as Buffy Summers, and also taking on an executive producer role, she recently confirmed some things about the show during her appearance on a podcast. This included the show's title, as well as the reasons behind the production's delays. She also stated that the new show is a continuation of the original Buffy series, not a remake or reboot. Preserving and not tainting the original series is a main factor stated as a reason behind the delays of the new show, which will not be releasd until it is truly ready. The confirmed cast of the new show was confirmed in 2025, with some of their characters explained. The direction of the show has been made clear too, with Buffy Summers overseeing the training of the new Slayer, Nova, in a rebuilt Sunnydale. With many of the characters listed, being students or teachers at Sunnydale High School, it is fair to assume the show might adopt similarities to the original series, in location if not story, but that still remains to be seen.
