I Stopped Watering My Garden 100° Heat, No Rain - Here's What Happened
My vegetable garden survives our long hot summers with no rain and no irrigation. I have it set up so I can go away for most of the summer and it will survive on its own. I tried wood chip gardening but that didn't work well here. It is too hot and dry here and the chips didn't hold in moisture well enough. The mulch I am using now works much better. I plant my cold weather crops in the fall, they give me greens in the winter through early summer. Some inside the greenhouse, some outside. I have mostly perennial plants outside that can survive year round with the help of this thick mulch. Most people I know only grow summer gardens. Mine is set up to provide food much of the year when most people aren't growing gardens.
