He identifies Stephen Miller as the ideologue who has most explicitly swapped the moral basis of international relations for raw power, stripping away what he calls the "veneer of legitimacy" that previously governed the global order. Bregman's prescription is what he calls moral ambition: a life oriented not around shallow happiness but around being useful, honourable, and effective. His new organisation, the School for Moral Ambition, recruits talent from "boring" corporate sectors – finance, law, consulting – and redirects it toward the world's most urgent problems: factory farming, big tobacco, AI safety, and the defence of democracy itself.
