Patio Chairs
2020 has been a hell of a year. I've started and finished many DIY projects, but none that felt good enough to show off. I finally decided to come up with something challenging and interesting, something that would test my skills and add some new ones. These chairs were, at first, an exercise in understanding grain direction: Respect the grain! I also wanted to try my hand at various joinery. Now, I know, not everyone is lucky enough to have a slot mortiser (it's just something I happened upon when searching my local craigslist). I won't say "you could easily do X, Y, and Z", but you definitely could come up with some other alternative methods to achieve the same thing. In fact, I think sandwiching some plywood and using a jigsaw to cut out the outline of this would be even more effective and beautiful. However, I wanted to keep it a classical exercise in woodworking. An eBay purchase of a sewing machine and I was ready to try something I've never done before to finish off the seats. My stitching sucks, but when they fail here, it will just be another reason to try again. Any advice would be much appreciated! In all honesty, I hate the arms. I wish I had just done a wooden solution. But for now, they work as they are. Something else you all to come up with for version 2.0. And from the bottom of my heart, thanks for sticking with me. I know the content is slow lately, but I promise I'm CONSTANTLY working on stuff, I just choose to only upload things that are up to the standards you've all come to expect. ► Enable closed captions for commentary ► Plans: https://docdro.id/5xFoU3L ► Image gallery with more commentary here: https://imgur.com/a/tHHnXtN ► SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/subscription_... ► INSTAGRAM: / measuredworkshop
