Ice Fishing SALTWATER on a 1,000 Foot Deep Fjord | Saguenay, Quebec

Ice Fishing.. on SALTWATER? Yup. This past winter I took a trip to the famous Saguenay Fjord of Quebec to ice fish the ocean for the first time. What makes this place so special is that it is one of the only places in North America that you can ice fish on saltwater and is reasonably accessible by car. Due to the crazy 1,000 foot depth of the fjord, impressive deepwater catches make this place stand out as well. Halibut pushing 200 pounds have been caught here, as well as huge cod and allegedly even Greenland Shark. The inflow of a freshwater river into the fjord allows for the water to stratify, allowing for the ice to form over a layer of freshwater at the surface. It's fascinating stuff! After years of not having the time to go, I finally had a break in work and I decided to make the trip up solo to see what I could catch!
