Exploring a Railroad Left to ROT Away…
The Pennsylvania Railroad's Irvona Branch once carried coal out of the mines along the Clearfield River. Over the decades, the line was cut back multiple times and currently ends near Flinton, a few miles short of the branch's namesake town. The PRR, Penn Central, Conrail, and Norfolk Southern all previously owned these rails, although RJ Corman is the current (and likely final) owner. As of 2025, it's been a decade since the final train rumbled down the line and nature has been swift in reclaiming its territory with weeds, downed trees, and washouts littering the line. This rail line is technically not abandoned, likely just placed out-of-service.
