How we make potting soil from scratch with hand tools only, and why it counts toward my rent. I live in my travel trailer at Far Out Farm and trade about 20 hours a week of work for my spot. The farm runs a native and medicinal plant nursery, so it goes through a lot of potting mix, and we make our own. The method is a lasagna layer cake: stack the ingredients in layers, then blend the pile down by hand. No machines, just hand tools.
