Het Verborgen Verhaal van de Slagharen-Koepelhal Van Circus tot Darkride

Did you know that the large domed hall in Slagharen wasn't originally built for this park at all—and wasn't even located in the Netherlands? In this video, you'll discover the complete story of the Slagharen domed hall: from an international garden expo in Germany to a circus theater, from the popular Wild West Show to the dark ride location of Wild West Adventure and the current Red Bandits Adventure. This is a unique piece of amusement park history that many visitors know by heart, but few know its full history. The domed structure first appeared in 1979 at the Bundesgartenschau in Bonn. After this major German garden and landscape exhibition, the building was sold and rebuilt in Slagharen. There, in the early 1980s, it took on a new function as a circus theater, with live shows and performances—a striking addition to the attractions offered by what was then Ponypark Slagharen. In the 1990s, its use changed again, and the hall became the setting for a well-attended Wild West Show. These stunt and family shows drew packed stands daily and became a lasting memory for an entire generation of visitors. Around 2000, another major transformation took place, when the hall was converted into the Wild West Adventure dark ride—for years one of the park's most popular indoor attractions. After more than twenty years, this classic attraction closed and was replaced. Since 2023, the renovated Red Bandits Adventure dark ride has been located in the same dome. This renovation has been received with mixed feelings: some visitors appreciate the modernization, while other fans miss the atmosphere and charm of Wild West Adventure. It is precisely this divided opinion that makes the history of this building all the more fascinating. In this video, you'll see archive footage, nostalgic clips, and current footage of the dome hall, and we take you through all the phases step by step. From Bundesgartenschau pavilion to Slagharen icon—with dates, context, and rare footage. Perfect for fans of amusement park nostalgia, Slagharen history, and lost or altered attractions.
