Angelica Herb - An Icelandic Saga

Wild Angelica (Angelica archangelica) can be found favouring the cooler climates of northern Europe and is a botanical that is deeply rooted in Iceland’s history. Iceland’s ancient healers held this potent plant in high esteem and used it for various medicinal purposes. According to old Icelandic texts, it was against the law to steal the valuable botanical and anyone caught was heavily fined. Today, modern science has confirmed the beneficial effects of the plant. In Iceland, the Wild Angelica herb can be found on an organic certified island called Hrísey, in the north of the country, on the edge of the Arctic Circle. Ethical vitamin company Viridian Nutrition's Technical Director Aimée Benbow travels to Iceland to speak to Angelica supplier Baldur Ólafsson.
