Why Allied Pilots need not fear the Japanese 25mm model 96 AA Guns - Deep Dive Review
During WWII, the main gun adopted by the IJN to defend against low flying plane attacks was the Model 96 25mm auto-cannon. The number mounted on ships varied from 22 on destroyers to 150 on aircraft carriers and battleships. The guns performance was poor though. It lacked a quick traverse and elevation mechanism, inadequate gun sights, slow rate of fire and no crew blast protection. These deficiencies reduced the guns effective range to around 1,500 yards.
