[4K] RAIN OR SHINE RAILFANNING IN WAYCROSS! Rice Yard Tour + More! Day 4 of the GA Trip! | 3/12/2026

This was originally meant to be a relax day, but it turned out to be anything but! The forecast for the Thursday of this week-long Georgia trip had been looking grim several days beforehand, and grim it absolutely was. We began the day by racing to get ahead of L725 on its trip north, as they were towing a Metra SD70MACH behind a long hood forward SD70AC...YOU JUST DON'T SEE THAT EVERYDAY! That Metra unit was the same one we had seen the day before on M515, and can be seen in the first clip on the final leg of its trip to the Progress Rail facility in Patterson, GA for repairs! Just after the local passed us by, a strong, yet short-lived line of storms followed suit, making the drive back into downtown Waycross a nightmare! We got word over the scanner of W003 going online, which we correctly suspected was to be a unit coming out of Rice Yard to pick up the three geometry cars on the storage track at Jenkins St. That unit, interestingly enough, was SD70AC #4547! Seeing a MACe on W003 is arguably not as cool as #9969 or some other older EMD, but we'll take it! We were lucky enough to film them not only coupling up to the cars and pulling out of the storage track, but also LEADING WITH THE REAR CAR across Jenkins St.! They had to shove over the northeast wye to position themselves correctly for a northbound trip up the Fitzgerald, and when you've got a car with headlights and a horn, you use it! After seeing them blast off out of town, we headed over for a late breakfast at Hog 'n Bones, which had some AMAZING barbecue, highly recommend! Next up was a new crossing for us in Astoria, GA where we caught L795 and L743 as some showers were moving in. Later on were some larger manifests, the second of which has a YN2 CW40-8 trailing third! Again, you just don't see that everyday! Just as the day was nearing an end, we decided to trek up to an abandoned Chevron gas station near Rice Yard and put up the drone to see what we could see going on, and we weren't disappointed in the slightest!
