As an inland region with two main tribes, the Dayak Ma'anyan and the Dayak Lawangan, they are divided into four customary areas: Kedamangan Paju Epat, Kedamangan Banua Lima, Kedamangan Kampung Sepuluh, and Kedamangan Paku Karau. East Barito Regency, with its traditional title of Tumpuk Nansarunai, Gumi Ngamang Talam, a land of arts and customs, boasts a wealth of distinctive traditional dances, ceremonies, and rituals, reflecting the legacy of the Dayak ancestors, steeped in mystical and magical nuances. The distinctive traditional charm of the sacred, mystical, and magical rituals revolves around itumang, or the affirmation of Wadian/Balian. Wadian are shamans believed to perform healing, cleansing, and removing evil spirits, as well as expressing gratitude. Wadian Bawo is a male shaman, while Wadian Dadas is a female shaman. Each Wadian is renowned for its unique traditional dances, including distinctive bracelet dances, specific poetry/pahiangan (songs), music, and ritual procedures. Each Wadian/Balian trains followers, known as anak am'mu (leaders). Once the leaders have mastered all the ritual stages and the knowledge of the Wadian system, they cannot perform the Wadian ritual until they have been confirmed. It is believed that the spirit/soul has not yet been registered or recognized by the lord. The Wadian/Balian is given the male shaman, the highest confirmation (pitumangan) (ngejong banawa), and the Wadian/Balian dadas (female shaman) is given the pitumangan (rice hall). In every traditional ceremony and ritual, the Dayak people first perform the "Ngenat ragam Pasiwahan" (ngenat ragam pasiwahan), a procession of customary rituals honoring the spirits of ancestors, and "Ngababuang Ngatatungkal," a procession of cleansing/purifying the place where the ritual is held. The sacred, mystical, and magical Wadian ritual procession includes the following meaningful stages: 1. The Panyawang Balai Natat ritual, which serves to seal off the presence of spirits outside the lord (the "outer Panyawang"), preventing them from disturbing the Wadian ritual. 2. The Batatap ritual, which involves donning the special Wadian attire: Peteh Kandrung, Babat, Iwai, Lawung, Tendrek, and Saramen. 3. Iwadian rituals: Nyiwuy Salompayang, which involves summoning the lord (the "lord") with a ritual syringe made from a bear's fang, signaling the beginning of the ritual. Ngilau Galang, which means awakening the spirit of the special bracelet to be worn. Mamuruku, which means opening or Reciting the ritual titles of Salompyang, pangomak/weapon, badan/body, place, and ritual equipment. Nyomah, meaning paying homage to the lord. Mihiang, meaning reciting special wadian poetry. Itumang/penguhan, meaning the ritual of confirming the child's marriage. Ngalap Aminrue, the Panyawang Dalam procession, meaning taking the spirit/soul from the light of the summu fire in the ancak. Ngampudi Mihiang, meaning returning the lord who has been summoned. 4. Iruang Wundrung, meaning the Balian (the Balian) will rejoice in uniting, combining the skill and beauty of their unique bracelet dances.
