The Strait of Hormuz has returned to the forefront of confrontation after the United States and Iran exchanged strikes on a wider scale than usual on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. These strikes came after a series of incidents in the Strait of Hormuz, the most serious of which was the recent targeting of three tankers transiting the strait. The US Central Command held the Iranian Revolutionary Guard responsible and bombed more than 80 Iranian targets, from islands in the Strait of Hormuz and the waters of the Gulf, all the way to Bandar Abbas. The Revolutionary Guard announced its retaliation by bombing US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.
